Tredu offers Hotel Receptionist studies in English. This program is for you to develop your skills into an international expert with strong customer service attitude, good language skills and ability to work in different cultural environments. Communication and interaction skills are the most important skills of a receptionist, who is responsible for the wellbeing, comfort and safety of customers.
The receptionist’s work includes guiding customers, making room reservations, invoicing, as well as check-in and check-out. In addition, introducing and selling products and services of tourism industry and guiding customers through the use of local travel services.
These studies provide expertise in hotel services and tourism environment as well as the customer service and English language skills.
International networking during the studies includes on-the-job learning in Finland and abroad. You may also take part in international student exchanges and working life projects.
Tourism is an international customer service industry and has a variety of job responsibilities. The receptionist does, with a big heart, customer service work for example in accommodation establishments with various business ideas, as well as in companies and establishments providing tourism, conference and congress, spa, health and wellness services.
Content of the degree
The scope of the Vocational Qualification in Tourism Industry is 180 competence points. The qualification is composed of vocational units (145 competence points) and common units (35 competence points).
The Vocational Qualification in Tourism Industry comprises of three competence areas and qualification titles. At Tredu you can study one of these in English: the competence area of accommodation services (Receptionist). You will also be able to study at least one more other foreign language (i.g. Spanish, German, French and Russian) as well as Finnish, if that is not your mother tongue.
In addition to customer service and language skills, the studies provide expertise in hotel services and tourism environment. International networking during the study period includes on-the-job learning in Finland or abroad. During the studies you can also take part in international student exchanges, projects and tutoring.

Requirements for student selection
- Qualification equivalent to Finnish General upper secondary education, (high school diploma) or Vocational upper secondary education.
- Good command in English language.
- This education is for those who have citizenship or residence permit in Finland or in EU/ETA/Schengen countries and who have the right to work in Finland https://migri.fi/en/right-to-work.
- Priority will be given to applicants who already speak Finnish.
- Interest in working as Hotel receptionist
- Motivation and language skills are tested in an admission interview.
Application process
Application period is 19th June – 12th July, 2023. Fill out the application form in Opintopolku. Please attach all the relevant documents regarding Residence permit in Finland (or in EU/ETA / Schengen area) and previous education (high school diploma or upper secondary vocational education certificate) with your application.
Please notice the application timeline:
• All eligible applicants will be invited to the interview by email latest on Wednesday 2nd August. The invitations to interviews will be sent to the applicant´s e-mail.
• The entrance interview will be held on Friday 4th August, 2023 at Tredu Pyynikki Campus, (Santalahdentie 10) Tampere.
• Admission results will be published on 9th August, 2023.
• The deadline for accepting the study place at the latest by 11th August, 2023.
• The studies will start as soon as possible or latest on Monday 14th August, 2023.
