On 3 September, Tredu and the City of Tampere had the honor of hosting an international delegation from the Anglo American Foundation, featuring 16 educational leaders from Chile and Peru. The visit was part of a broader Finnish program organized at the request of the Embassy of Finland in Chile, aimed at exploring best practices in education and fostering future collaboration.
Led by David Viera, Education and Community Manager at the Anglo American Foundation, the delegation is touring three Finnish cities — Helsinki, Turku, and Tampere — each offering unique insights into the Finnish education system. In Tampere, the focus was on vocational education and workplace-oriented learning environments.
Sharing Educational Best Practices
During their visit to Tredu, the delegation engaged in discussions with Director Kirsi Viskari, Head of Education Export Virpi Heinonen, and Teacher Sari Sahlman, who shared examples of student-centered learning environments and Tredu’s international education export initiatives. Later, Matti Helimo provided valuable perspectives on how education is managed at the municipal level, including administration, funding, and curricula.
Afternoon continued with a visit to Tampere University of Applied Sciences led by Marta Gil-Carcedo, to understand Finnish professional teacher education model.
Adding a special dimension to the visit, a Chilean media team from Canal 13 accompanied the delegation to document the Finnish education system and the role of public education in Finland’s development.
We extend our heartfelt thanks to all Tredu and Tampere colleagues who contributed to this inspiring exchange. A special acknowledgement goes to the Anglo American delegation participants, many of whom experienced their first traditional Finnish sauna and lake swim on Tuesday evening, hosted by Virpi Heinonen.
Together, we are building bridges for future cooperation in education and cultural exchange!
