Content of the studies

Come and study Tourism with us in English! You will have great opportunities to work in various tourism companies. The work takes place in tourism industry, such as hotels, spas, meeting and congress and tourism centers.

As a Tourism Service Agent, you will serve and guide hotel guests in both Finnish and English. You may work at the hotels or other establishments providing accommodation, national, regional or local tourism sales and advisory organisations, travel or tourism offices, sales services, tourist resorts, sales and information points, central reservation agencies, transport companies or companies organising tourist activities. For example working in a hotel includes checking guests in and out, making room reservations and invoicing. In addition, introducing and selling products and services, guiding customers to use the local travel services are essential part of the hospitality professional.

This program is for you to develop your skills into an international expert with strong customer service attitude, good language skills and ability to work in different cultural environments. You will also study one more other foreign language as well as Finnish, if that is not your mother tongue. Communication and interaction skills are the most important skills of a hospitality professional, who is responsible for the wellbeing, comfort and safety of guests.

During your studies you´ll have a great opportunity to take part in international student exchanges and working life projects. International networking includes on-the-job learning in Finland and abroad.

Tourism is an international customer service industry and has a variety of job responsibilities. The hospitality professional does, with a big heart, customer service work in accommodation establishments with various business ideas, as well as in companies and establishments providing tourism, conference and congress, spa, health and wellness services.

Content of the degree

The scope of the Vocational Qualification in Tourism Industry is 180 competence points. The qualification is composed of vocational units (145 competence points) and common units (35 competence points).

Tourism Service Agents who have completed the Vocational Qualification in Tourism Industry work in hotels or other establishments providing accommodation, national, regional or local tourism sales and advisory organisations, travel or tourism offices, sales services, tourist resorts, sales and information points, central reservation agencies, transport companies or companies organising tourist activities.

These studies provide expertise in hotel services and tourism environment as well as the customer service and English language skills.

Requirements for student selection

  • Qualification equivalent to Finnish basic education (grades 1-9), qualification equivalent to Finnish general upper secondary education (high school diploma) or a vocational degree / university degree.
  • Citizenship or residence permit in Finland or in EU/ETA/Schengen countries, valid until 30th June 2026 or longer.
  • Fluent in English language.
  • Basic level of Finnish language is required. If the applicant is of compulsory school age, Finnish is not required.

No exceptions will be made, and we do not request missing documents later. Your application will be automatically cancelled if the required attachments are not included, we are not able to open them or if you do not meet the listed requirements. Please note that applications are reviewed daily during the admission period.

Applicants under 18 years of age who live abroad must have a guardian residing in Finland (such as a parent, grandparent, close relative, or sports coach).

Information for applicants

  • All eligible applicants (except those of compulsory school age) are invited to an in-person information session on 31 March 2026 at 10:00, at Santalahdentie 10, Tampere (no remote option).
  • At the end of the session, a time for the group interview will be scheduled.
  • Please note: If you do not attend the information session or the interview, your application will be cancelled.
  • Applicants of compulsory school age will be invited directly to a group interview and do not need to attend the information session.
  • Motivation and Finnish and English language skills will be assessed during the group interview which will take place later in April in Tampere, Finland (online interviews are not possible).

The language of instruction is English.
Studies take place in Tampere, Finland (no remote option).
