Navigating New Skies: Tredu Elevates Namibia’s Aviation Training

On Thursday 18.4. Tredu welcomed important guests from Namibia, including the country’s ambassador and ministry-level representatives. The visit was part of a broader effort to strengthen cooperation between Finland and Namibia in the field of aircraft maintenance education export.

Another purpose of the visit was to familiarize the guests with Tredu’s role in developing aircraft maintenance training in Namibia according to EASA regulations. The collaboration is based on the activities of the AIRRhow alliance, established in 2019, through which Tredu has organized aircraft maintenance training in Namibia. The alliance includes several aviation industry companies and educational organizations from both Finland and Namibia.

Previously, Namibian aircraft mechanics were trained in South Africa, but a law reform that came into force in 2023, made the training of foreigners virtually impossible. This put the future of Namibian aviation training at risk.

Tredu responded to this challenge by educating Namibian instructors in Finland and offering four EASA modules to aircraft mechanic students through remote learning.

These modules covered mathematics, physics, electronics, and human factors. The teaching period culminated in an intensive session and exams in Namibia in April 2024, during which Tredu representatives visited the country for two weeks.

The collaboration project between Namibia’s aviation industry and Tredu has received funding from Finnpartnership and the City of Tampere. Although the project is scheduled to conclude in the summer of 2024, both parties hope that the cooperation will continue, actively exploring new forms of collaboration. Tredu sees this partnership as an opportunity to expand its educational exports and contribute to the development of the aviation sector in Namibia while providing valuable expertise to its partners.

Tredu’s role in Namibia extends beyond aircraft maintenance training. The goal is to support sustainable growth and development in Namibia’s aviation industry through the sharing of expertise and resources.
